As always the answer to a golf question is “it depends”. The current three woods are not far behind drivers in distance and they often launch lower. There are two factors where a Three-wood may be better for you than driver. One…. if your angle of attack with driver is negative ( which means you are striking with a descending blow. Or Two……if your club head speed is 95 mph or less. If both factors apply then 3 wood might be a great play. Also the added loft of a three wood may reduce a bad slice.

If you strike the driver on the upswing ( angle of attack positive) then driver is usually the best choice.
