For the greater Phoenix Metro area, the city of Phoenix has some pretty good municipal courses. The two that come to mind and are at the top of the list would be Papago Park and Encanto Park Golf Course. Papago also houses the Men’s and Women’s Golf Teams for ASU so you know conditions are at a level you would expect. With the renovation of the Clubhouse, you could not ask for a better place to have some food and a beer after your round. I always find the course in excellent condition and truly plenty challenging.
Encanto Park is also a nice layout. Lower green fee than Papago but still a very good and well maintained course. Held my attention for sure but pay attention to other players errant shots as it is a parkland style with parallel fairways.
East side of town is Apache Creek Golf Course. Good value, good practice facilities, and descent enough layout.
