OUR TEACHING PHILOSOPHY:
We strongly believe that all golfers, given the right combination of swing fundamentals for them, are capable of significant improvement regardless of age, skill level or physical limitations. We uses a combination of computerized video swing analysis, golf assessment, flexibility screening and club path analyzer data to gather the necessary information required to determine the swing type best suited for our students. By finding a golfer’s best “Swing Type,” we can help them make the appropriate changes for success without completely overhauling their old swing. As a result, golfers can see immediate improvement by adjusting their swing and minimizing errors. Students also gain a greater understanding of what their own “tendencies” or “poor swing habits” are and how to correct and avoid them.

By combining “Swing View Pro” computer-assisted software with teaching aids and practice drills, we help our students learn the new swing changes. Our On-Range Indoor to Outdoor Video Studio provides the most comprehensive way to show the student the cause and effect a particular swing flaw can have on the overall golf swing and outcome of the shot. We maintain an extensive digital library of PGA Tour Professionals that are used for comparison and to demonstrate the fundamental “common denominators” of all world-class players.

Our on-course playing lessons, physical conditioning and guidance on the mental aspects of the game compliment our instructional program, allowing students to reach a new level of success and greatly achieve their full potential.

How old were you when you got started in golf and what eventually pulled you into becoming a golf professional?

I started when I was seven years old, but not serious about playing the game until I was twelve years old when we joined a country club near my home. A number of PGA Professionals not only helped develop my game, but showed how the game can impact your life. I learned to love the game and the challenges it provides. I played junior, high school and college golf. Upon graduation in 1977, I turned professional.

How do you stay current with the latest developments in teaching methods?

I am subscribed to golf industry and instruction YouTube Channels, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram sites. All academy staff professionals are certified through the equipment companies we represent. I attend the PGA Merchandise Show in person each or online (2021) for the latest in equipment, teaching technology and fitness.

What are 2 trends in golf that you’re excited about?

The growth of the game since 2020 and the COVID-19 pandemic. There has been an influx of new golfers taking up the game. All of our Get Golf Ready I & II classes were filled to capacity. PGA Junior Golf Camps were maxed out as well. More youth and women players are gravitating to the game. It is great to be outdoors instead of being indoors and reconnecting with friends and family.

All professional golf tours have increased in popularity! New technology developments in equipment make Clubfitting essential for all players. I look forward to a continued growth of the game for years to come.

Do you specialize in teaching any facets of the game?

I teach all aspects of the game, however the majority of private lessons are full swing. The first lesson, the student fills out our “Student Profile Form” which provides us with some background on their game as well as any physical limitations. I then analyze their swing with video and launch monitor data to develop a plan of improvement.

What sets you apart from other golf professionals?

I have over 35 years teaching and coaching experience. I have received numerous awards, accolades and success stories for my teaching expertise. Longevity for the Chuck Will Golf Academy at Dulles Golf Center (Since 1998). I give approximately 1200+ private lessons each year. The golf academy offers lesson programs for novice to expert players. We have private lessons, group classes and junior golf camps. The main difference is our total commitment to only instruction and equipment fitting.

Any advice for someone considering pursuing a career as a golf teaching professional?

Be willing to commit to teaching as a full time occupation. Not as a side income source. Access all the tools available on line and from other teaching professionals. Learn from the industry’s best teachers and clubfitters in person whenever possible. Become a PGA Professional and take advantage of their continuing education opportunities. Great teachers teach a lot! You need to be “all in” to be the best!

Anything else you’d like to comment on while we have you?

People learn to love golf because of the challenges, different courses and the fact that it can’t be mastered. All you can do is try to get better. You will meet some exceptional people coming to you for help with their game. Learn from what makes them successful and apply it to your life and instructional programs.
