Jason Robinson - Country Club at Mirasol

I am originally from Grafton, West Virginia. I played golf at West Virginia Wesleyan College in Buckhannon and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing. As most 22 year old graduates, I didn’t know what I was going to do, so I started working at the country club my college coach was a member. After 2 seasons, I had a long conversation with the Head Professional, and I decided to begin the PGA PGM program. In February of 2009 I was elected as a class ‘A’ PGA member. I’ve been an Assistant Professional, Head Professional, and even a General Manager at various facilities, mostly in West Virginia, but recently made the move to South Florida, where myself and my family reside full-time now.

YOUR PLACE IN THE SUN
Set within the heart of the Palm Beaches, this magnificent residential country club community is surrounded by natural preserves and exquisite lakes. The private, gated enclave offers two championship golf courses designed by legends Tom Fazio and Arthur Hills, superb dining and social offerings, a family-friendly Sports Complex, a dedicated Tennis Center, and The Esplanade, which is a lushly landscaped destination for the best in fitness, spa, and aquatics.

How old were you when you got started in golf and what eventually pulled you into becoming a golf professional?

I was 10-11 years old when I first began taking an interest in the game. After college I didn’t have a game plan on what to do, so I started working at a local country club. After 2 season, the Head Professional asked me if I had ever thought about becoming a PGA member, and 7 years later I was still working there and well on my way to becoming a PGA member.

How do you stay current with the latest developments in teaching methods?

I am very active on social media. I follow a lot of different teaching professionals and enjoy watching their different ideas and methods on teaching and growing the game.

What are 2 trends in golf that you’re excited about?

Technology #1. It’s always exciting to see what the next best thing is going to be. #2 The Game of Golf in general. Unfortunately it took a worldwide pandemic but the golf business is better now than it’s ever been.

Do you specialize in teaching any facets of the game?

I don’t specialize in any one area, but if I had to pick one, it would be on-course game management for better players.

What sets you apart from other golf professionals?

I believe I am a good mix of old school and new school golf professionals. That comes from the variety of professionals and facilities that I’ve worked for.

What’s the most exciting thing on the horizon for you personally or professionally?

Personally, my daughter is about to turn 5 years old and will begin Kindergarten soon. Professionally, I will be playing in my first PGA Assistant Championship at the beginning of November in Port St. Lucie, FL.

Do you actively play competitive golf? Any recent bragworthy performances you’d like to share?

Yes. I have played in a majority of the South Florida PGA section/chapter events this year. I finished 1st in the SE Chapter Assistant/Apprentice Championship, shooting 69 at PGA National Estates course on August 30th. I finished T-2nd in the SFPGA Assistant Championship, shooting 67-70 at Wyndemere CC on August 9th & 10th, and was 1 of the 5 successful qualifiers for the National PGA Assistant Championship.

Is there a highlight from your career in golf that stands out above the rest?

I’ve played in 3 PGA Professional Championships – French Lick Resort 2010, Philadelphia Cricket Club 2015, and PGA Golf Club 2020. All three times have been an amazing experience and been some of the best times I’ve had during my golfing career.

Any advice for someone considering pursuing a career as a golf teaching professional?

Talk to as many golf professionals as you can. Ask them as many questions as you can think of. Always try to improve!
